Kinja'd!!!

The dealer I work for part-time just got this in last night. I happened to be there today and decided to take it for a rip around the block and wow, I think I might need it in my life. I’ve always liked Miata’s, never had the chance to drive one.

This is a 2001 with 124k on the odometer. Old man driven, no curbed wheels or major paint flaw. Only damage is a ripped drivers seat. Clutch felt good, these are super easy to heel-toe in.

I could probably get this for around $35oo. Not sure if that’s a good price or not, but tempting nevertheless. Hmmm.

That is one clean engine bay. Did it come in like that or has it already been detailed?

Came like that. Not sure if the guy cleaned in before, but I suspect not since the rest of the car was dirty.

It looks very clean, especially for the mile age. Almost too clean...

M y inner pessimist wonders if there was perhaps some oil escaping that got steam cleaned away. Not that would necessarily stop me or anything, just makes me wonder is all.

Definitely one of the cleaner ones out there. Amazing deal if you have a place to keep it away from the elements.

I would do it. Most anything actually wrong with it would be an easy fix and that's a good price. Everyone should have a Miata.

That would be the hard part, I only have a small garage at my apartment. Don’t think my parents would be too keen at keeping it in their garage, unfortunately.

Reasonable deal. Mine was an ‘02 Special Edition with 110k on it for $4700. Got the bose sound system, torsen LSD, 6 speed trans, unique seats and interior. Just as a point of comparison.

Yeah they’ll run it through the shop next week, so I’ll be curious to see if they notice anything.

Thanks, good to know. I’m guessing this is an LS model?

I’ve always said I would buy one at some point, so this might be a good opportunity.

Looks good, and the price seems fair if it’s in good shape. Any idea of it has the sport suspension or just the standard setup?

I’m not sure how good this particular website is - they have different prices for cassette deck or cassette player; I’m assuming that perhaps they mean CD player because, at least in my world, automotive cassette decks and cassette players  are the same thing...

$3500 for a clean LS sounds very reasonable. Just be sure to check the front chassis rails for rust:

My brother didn't know to look here before he bought his 01 SE.

That’s a very good price! I’m buying approximately the same thing for nearly $5k so yeah do it!! Make sure to check for rust as that is the most important factor. The front frame forks and the rocker panels. Here’s what mine looks like, don’t buy one with ANY rust there:

Kinja'd!!!

That’s in the wheel well just behind the shocks. Sway bar connects to it. Might be behind a plastic cover although those are usually missing.

Thanks for the heads up. Gonna look at it on a lift next week. I live in the rust belt so you never know what might be hiding.

No idea if it has the sport suspension. I don’t know a whole lot about these besides the basics.
